The Michael Ducksbury Memorial Sponsored Vintage Tractor Road Run is a family organised event. It was started in 2005 in remembrance of Michael who we sadly lost to bowel cancer in 2004. Michael was very keen on vintage tractors, so we decided to organise a vintage tractor road run through Michael's home village and surrounding area.
During Michael's illness he was treated at Weston Park Hospital in Sheffield. The care he was given here, and the support our family received, were exceptional and so much appreciated that we decided to make the road run a sponsored event to raise as much money to donate to the hospital as possible, so the care and support we received can continue to be given to other families.
A different route is organised for the event each year, along roads and tracks to take in varying views of our beautiful area. There is always a mid-morning break for a rest, and a lunch break half-way through where there is food provided for all participants and helpers. The afternoon route ends back at Tuxford where we have refreshments and draw a raffle. The raffle always has plenty of great prizes kindly donated by local people and businesses. We also have a prize giving, including a medal presentation for the person who has raised the most sponsorship money.
Over the years we have had lots of fun and have raised a great deal of money from sponsorship, raffle and donations, which has been spent on equipment and refurbishment/redecoration of both the family room of Ward 2 and the radiography area of Weston Park Hospital.
This amount of money would not have been raised if it wasn't for the support of the participants, who have turned out in various weather conditions over the years. We are so thankful to all these people who help to make the event so enjoyable and successful.
Thanks also goes to the volunteers who come to help with marshalling and catering. The event runs so smoothly because of this help and couldn't go ahead without it.
We look forward to seeing you at our next event!!
See you in 2019!!
